Newquay: Faeces the Facts
The expressive art of film is used around the world to entertain and inform. This short film is the first piece I have ever undertaken, a creation for my degree using PremierePro. The brief for this work was to highlight an environmental or wildlife issue occurring within the Newquay (Cornwall) area.

A lot of time is spent assessing and educating people on the subject of environmental issues caused by plastics and the impact on the marine environment, but as a child of the 80's I remember DDT and other pesticides and pollutants making their way into the water systems and through food chains. I wondered what else goes into the marine environment and what we as individuals can directly control or make a positive impact on ourselves.

As part of a group we devised a brief to investigate the waste water system around Newquay and the impact of seasonal increases in population, weighing the economical against the environmental, as personally I believe issues can become superseded and remain understated until there is a problem or public outcry.

We achieved this by firstly researching the issue; investigating water usage, investigating infrastructure, investigating seasonal population increases, investigating environmental impacts. This lead to the creation of the script.

Using the script as a base, we then filmed around Newquay using a Panasonic Lumix GH5, searching out waste water outlets that exit directly into waterways and into the marine environment, finding out what infrastructure Newquay has, and capturing the imagery necessary to tell this story.
Individually I adapted the script, chose the imagery, then expressed this story in my own narrative.
